Christmas Dress-up

We've had a fun Christmas season of playing dress up! Mike and I got to dress up for the work Christmas nightclub party. The party itself was okay, but I looked pretty fabulous! Same dress as last year (the benefits of moving around). I was able to tweak it to finally get those arms modest. There was no way I was wearing a sweater in this summer heat!

Lydia had a class Christmas assembly and she chose to dress up as Mrs. Claus. What fun! It's amazing what a wig can do!

As the family Christmas party, Mike's work invited all the families to a baseball game (yes, there is baseball in Australia, but it's not very popular. This was the first time Mike has ever had to explain the game to adults). We had a great time, even though I don't think we really watched the game. We had food and drinks and goody bags. Fun! There was a balloon man (Evelyn didn't like him) and a face painting lady! The kids looked awesome!

It took Evelyn a little while to want her face painted, but she really liked it and still talks about the butterflies on her face.

Last week began summer break for us. We invited some friends over and (after we went swimming) (yeah, weird) the kids wanted to put on a show for us mums. So they came down in these great outfits and sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." It was fantastic!

We wish you a Merry Christmas too! And may you feel the peace of Christ's love in this beautiful season! Enjoy that winter weather and hot cocoa for me. God bless!

Isaac on Broadway

Isaac had a Kindy (preschool) concert last week!

I loved how wonderfully low key it was. It started at 6, the kids sang some songs and we were out of there by 6:30. No punch or cookies to get the kids riled up before bedtime. It was just simple and perfect.
Here is the "Rocket Ship" song. Isaac sings it all the time at home and I was glad to finally see it in concert! Don't you love the Aussie accent coming from little kids?

I wish I'd gotten a picture of Evelyn during the concert. The first row of the audience was short chairs for the siblings. That was entertainment in itself. Between Evelyn trying fervently to imitate all the actions and jumping and clapping after each song and a 3 year old sister who cried because she didn't get to stand next to her brother and sing, it was great fun!
Here is Isaac with his two teachers; Ms Janice and Ms Jo.

It has been a fun year! We're a little sad that there are only two weeks of school left, but Isaac is excited to start Prep (kindergarten) at the end of January!

Dinosaur sighting

On Saturday we went to the Australia Zoo to celebrate Robert Irwin's 9th birthday with him. He likes dinosaurs so the whole zoo was decorated in Jurassic motif. We got to meet paleontologists and add clay to a model of a dinosaur.

During the Crocodile Show we got to sing to Robert and he got to meet a dinosaur! A life size australovenator! Oh, and the guy in the hat is the paleontologist who discovered it in 2009. How cool is that?

It was the most amazing dinosaur I had ever seen! It was a puppet controlled by a man inside! It blew any animatronic dinosaur out of the water! And the best part was we got to meet the dinosaur later in the park!

He had such character! Sometimes he'd get cute and lay his head on the ground for the kids to come scratch him behind the... ears.

Kids and adults alike were enthralled with it! Evelyn did NOT like it... at all. So we went to the zoo and the highlight was a pretend dinosaur! But I did finally get to see an echidna! Every time I've been to a zoo here they've been hiding, but I finally got to see one!

It's kind of a bad picture if you don't know what you're looking at. They're much bigger than I thought they were. I thought they were like a small hedgehog, but they're closer in size to an o'possum or porcupine. Anyway, I thought he was way cute.
