Cheap Thrills

In our travels one day we saw a funny looking building perched up high on a hill and thought "Hey, I wonder if we can get there." Sure enough we could! We parked and walked UP a little trail about a half a mile (emphasis on the up).

We discovered it was a fire lookout station, in case of forest fires. Pretty cool.

The view was lovely!

And right around the corner was a great pie place! The kids had their first meat pie. They really liked it!

Yum! Good thing Mike bought two.

Now, in the states people take stale bread to feed the ducks. Well, here in Australia we take stale bread to feed the eastern water dragons. These guys are a good foot to 2 feet long!

We went to the river over by Mike's work, brought our old bread and a picnic lunch. Good times had by all!

Occasionally they'd get bold and come right up!

We discovered they liked our discarded peanut butter sandwiches way better than just the old bread. Duh, peanut butter makes anything better!

Fun with Evelyn

Evelyn is such a doll. I'm lucky that I get so much time with her while Isaac is at Kindy. There is a friendly cat that lives next door and likes to spend time basking in the sun on our trampoline. Here he joined us on our front porch for a good chin scratching. (Look at my pretty new doormat!)

Evelyn loves to help in the kitchen. Usually I'll give her a mixing bowl and some flour to stir. This particular evening we got fancy with some rice and parsley in a spice shaker.

Looks delicious!

Then there are times when I really just need her occupied for a good stretch of time so I can accomplish something. A friend told me a trick her grandmother would use. Scoot them up to the sink, turn it on a trickle, and let them play. She's content for a good half an hour! A miracle!

By the way, I don't feel so bad letting the water run for Evelyn because Mike has been showering at work so often. He runs along the river during his lunch break then showers at work. AND he participated in a mini triathlon last minute on Saturday. ConocoPhillips had a team and someone couldn't make it, so Mike filled in for him. I'm so proud of my man!
