The simple adventures of our highly entertaining little family

This weekend we actually had a Sat with nothing going on! So we played tourist and headed out to the Meremac Caverns. It was about an hour and a half away.
It was really cool! We got to tour inside the caverns seeing everything from a giant limestone cave (that was used as a dance hall in the old days) to gorgeous onyx stalactites and stalagmites and amazing rock formations. It was stunning! Sadly none of the pictures do them justice, but here are a couple...
It was dark and a bit chilly down there! It stays 60 degrees all year round. Coming from 80 degree weather in our t-shirts we did get a little cold!

Afterwards we bought ice cream and enjoyed the sun again! Mine was huckleberry ice cream and it was divine! Isaac was eager to help. What a fun day!

A Saturday with nothing to do? I didn't know those existed?

What they didn't tell you is that this exact cave was the film site for the fabulous "Earth vs. the Spider" film, circa 1958, where local teens discover a giant spider's lair in a cave. The pictures you took look awesome! I'd way rather visit a cave of this size then repeat my highschool spelunking experience. Something about a tall person in really small dark spaces just doesn't work for me.
