Anniversary Weekend
Mike and I had a weekend away! (Thank you, parents!) After dropping the kids off at Oma and Opa's house in Cincinnati we drove to Lousiville, Kentucky to celebrate our 15 year anniversary. After checking into our fancy hotel in downtown Louisville, The Brown Hotel (for which Mike scored a killer deal), we did sealings at the temple where we'd been married 15 years ago. It was wonderful!
For dinner we went to the English Grill, an elegant restaurant in our equally elegant hotel.
Here are just a few pictures of the hotel, which was built in 1923. What I would have given for license to roam the place with a nice camera! Our room.
Saturday morning we walked the city! We didn't really know anything about Louisville except for the temple, so it was a fun place to explore. Mr. J .Graham Brown himself.Look at that cieling!
We spent a good part of the morning in the Glassworks, where glass is blown. It was so fun to watch. Then we stopped in the art museum and the science museum and funky shops. It was so fun! We saw the Louisville Slugger Museum and its giant bat.
We found an antique shop that was huge! We could have spent days there looking at crazy stuff! I found a cast iron spider that now sits on my mantle.
On the lowest level of the hotel there was an old mailbox. There was a mail chute that ran the 16 stories down to the mailbox. Unfortunately they've since closed off the chute, but I was excited to buy a postcard from the art gallery and mail it to the kids from this cool mailbox.
We got a peek on the roof as they were cleaning up a wedding reception. So gorgeous!! One of the staff took our picture.
Later that night we went out for ice cream and stepped into the lobby of the Palace Theatre, also a gem of 1920's architecture and glamour! It was so fun to talk to the old man working there. Such history! We walked around some more and caught a few minutes of an MMA fight. What a fun city!
After attending church Sunday morning in Kentucky (without children - we fell asleep in sacrament meeting) we headed back to Cincinnati. My parents and the children had a special surprise for us! They had planned an elegant anniversary celebration with fine china, silver and flowers. Mom made a cheesecake and bought a beautiful white chocolate mousse cake. We had sparkling grape juice in goblets. It was just so marvelous! What a sentimental final touch to an already wonderful weekend. It was so fun to see how excited Oma and the kids were and to imagine how much fun they had preparing it. It just fills my heart! I am so blessed with thoughtful parents, fun children, and a dashing man to call mine forever! Happy anniversary indeed!
