The caterpillar project continues! Unfortunately, we did have one casualty, but our other 2 are progressing well. On Sunday one of the caterpillars assumed this bizarre position on a stick ...
And Monday morning he looked like this! A green cacoon hanging by two thin threads!
The second caterpillar was only a day behond and is now a cacoon as well. The cacoons are just over an inch long and are covered with small yellow dots. Wow! I'm probably the only one who thinks this is so fascinating! When they were still caterpillars I had to check on before I went to bed just in case they were molting. But they should be in their cacoons for another week so I can relax for a little while. Mike thinks they're cool too. Too bad Lydia doesn't really get excited beyond trying to shove her hand in the jar. In a couple years this'll be fun for her. Speaking of our brilliant firstborn! She said her first real word (beyond mama and dada and "uh oh"). A word consisting of 2 different consanants! We were reading a book about a dog and she pointed and said "dagha!" Then she woofed "hoo hoo." She's so cute! Mike's been teaching her what animals say and that's her woof. Her moo is "mmmm."
Here's a picture we took over the busy weekend at a church social. Here is Emily (Lydia's 9 yr old cousin), Troy (the brand new cousin), and a sister in the ward known to all the Johnson kids as Grandma Nancy, and Lydia of course.
