Maleny Dairy

Last weekend we went to the coolest place! A family owned working dairy just an hour north of us called Maleny Dairy. The place was beautiful! There was lots of room to run around and luckily the weather was sunny and gorgeous! As we waited for the tour to start the kids played on these funny bouncy cows.

At the start of the tour we met one of their Guernsey cows, Millie. We got to brush her and see how she is milked. We fed calves, goats and chickens.

We saw where they hook the cows up to milking machines and watched milk being put into jugs.

It was so fun! At the end we got free samples of their award winning yogurt and their flavored milks. What a blast! We treated the kids to some soft serve ice cream,

while Mike and I enjoyed some amazing mango frozen yogurt (all made from their milk). It was phenomenal! We also bought a jug of their milk, which is actually quite yellow because the Guernsey cows they milk have beta carotin in their milk. Neat! And we bought a giant tub of their strawberry yogurt which was fabulous!
For lunch we stopped at a German restaurant we'd read about that was just down the street from the dairy called King Ludwig's. The waitresses all wore cute German smocks and aprons and were definitely German! I loved the accents! Too bad the prices were crazy expensive (especially for lunch), but it was tasty! And look at this view!

What a fun day trip!

How fun! Guernsey cows make great milk. Once you've had the good stuff with cream and not unnaturally white, it's hard to go back. Glad you all had a good time and enjoyed the products of the dairy.
