Mike's triathlon weekend!
Friday night we drove an hour and a half down to the Gold Coast to be ready for Mike's triathlon the next morning. It was the Nissan Corporate Triathlon, meaning a bunch of companies got their employees to participate. As such it was a sprint triathlon, meaning a short one. They wouldn't want their computer geeks to keel over. But it was more than I'd be able to do, so more power to them!
We scored an amazing hotel room on Wotif.com! Although it was more like an apartment, with a full kitchen and two bedrooms and even two bathrooms! Wowsa! We definitely know where to come if we ever come down again. The Mantra Sun City Resort.

When we booked the room with two single beds and a king, we just figured we'd make a nest for Evelyn on the floor, which would have been fine. But when we got there they'd brought in a whole extra bed for her! We were very pleased.
We were on the eighth floor and had a balcony with an amazing view!

Sure there were some other hotels in the way, but we saw the ocean just across the street

and watched the sunrise! Fabulous!
Oh, right, the triathlon... Well, Mike left at 6 a.m. to get his bike registered. The kids and I headed down at 8. Lucky for us, a friend of ours from the stake and her 10 yr old son were down there as well to watch her husband compete. So I swung by their hotel across the street and we went to park. In order to get into the main grounds of the triathlon we had to walk a mile and a half, but the kids were troopers! I have always been so grateful for how well my kids walk! It was an easy (albeit long) walk and we got there in time to have Mike meet us since he'd just finished! Aww, shucks. But we were able to see our friend start his race.

We got to hang out with Mike's coworkers outside the ConocoPhillips tent and eat bacon and fried egg sandwiches. Yum! The kids really enjoyed the bowl of chocolates at easy access. That's probably why they got a little crazy.

But the best thing was the weather and the location! It was absolutely gorgeous! It was situated in an inlet and we climbed on rocks by the water.

And found a quiet little piece of beach. Which started out as playing in the sand.

And then wading in the water.

Then because we had a change of clothes in the car and because I knew it was inevitable...

This water was perfect! It was shallow like an enormous kiddie pool! The kids had a blast! They played while Mike biked back to get the car once the road reopened, saving us the mile and a half walk back. What an awesome weekend! Way to go, Mike!
