Houston Livestock Show

Hooray for spring break and getting to have Laura and Patrick join us for a couple days from Dallas!  The kids all helped set up our brand new trampoline before company came.  Even Alice handed out screws and Bridget did lots of twisting.  Hooray for having a trampoline again!
Laura and Patrick and kids came on March 14th, pi day, so of course I had to bake pie!  Pecan and cherry.
We loved the Houston Livestock Show when we last went 8 years ago.  We were so excited to have cousins join us this year!  It was wonderful!  We saw cows and rabbits and bees!  And baby chicks literally hatching!
The petting zoo was a big hit.  Even if a deer slobbered all over Laura’s sweater and a goat tried to eat Bridget’s skirt.
The alpacas were super soft!

Patrick couldn’t wait to see the pig races. Waiting for them to start.

It was cute!  Go, pigs, go!

There was this great “Agventure” agriculture trail where you collected things to put in a basket.  Whoever came up with this was brilliant!  Who doesn’t love putting things in baskets?  The children planted a “seed” token and collected a plastic vegetable (depending upon what their seed was) to put in their basket.

They fed corn to fake chickens and got a plastic egg in return.  Here’s Laura and Alice milking a cow.  They got a plastic bottle of milk to put in their basket.

After collecting items along the way they ended up at a farmer’s market.  Here they sorted their things into the right basket for sale.  In return they got two paper bills.  One they turned in for a treat (crackers or a box of raisins, etc) and the other bill they turned into the bank.  Genius!!  Isaac, Clark, and Alice putting their things away at the farmer’s market.

Ain’t we purdy?

The tram ride to the car was the perfect finale!  What a great day!
